Assyrians

Grety is of Assyrian origin. They are an ancient and Christian people from the Middle East. She spent the first four years of her life in Baghdad before fleeing to the Netherlands in 1994.

The Assyrians are one of the indigenous peoples of the Middle East. Nowadays, as a result of violence and war, the majority of Assyrians live in Europe and America. Most Assyrians are Christian, divided into various Eastern churches. The Syrian Orthodox Church is one of them. This church regards itself as the oldest Christian church community around. The original language of the Assyrians is Aramaic, the language Jesus spoke.
